Woodward Re-Signs With Blue Jays

TORONTO -- The Toronto Blue Jays signed shortstop Chris Woodward to a one-year, $775,000 contract.

Woodward, who was eligible for salary arbitration, hit .276 with 13 home runs and 45 RBI in 90 games.

The Blue Jays traded shortstop Felipe Lopez this offseason because of the emergence of Woodward, who has a .244 average with 18 home runs and 66 RBI in 178 career games.

He was drafted in the 54th round of the 1994 draft.

Top starter Roy Halladay, left fielder Shannon Stewart, closer Kelvim Escobar and set up reliever Cliff Politte remain eligible for salary arbitration.
