LOS ANGELES -- The Los Angeles Dodgers avoided arbitration with Adrian Beltre on Friday by agreeing to a one-year contract worth $3.7 million with the 23-year-old third baseman.
That came a day after the Dodgers avoided arbitration with Odalis Perez by agreeing to a one-year contract for $3.4 million with the 24-year-old left-hander. Perez had a 15-10 record with a 3.00 ERA for Los Angeles last year in his first season with the team.
That leaves right-handed reliever Giovanni Carrara as the only arbitration-eligible Dodgers player who hasn't signed. Carrara asked for $880,000 and the Dodgers offered $725,000.
Beltre earned $2.3 million last season, when he hit .257 with a career-high 21 homers and 75 RBIs. He batted .335 with 11 homers and 36 RBIs after the All-Star break.
Beltre has a .267 average with 76 home runs and 309 RBIs in 652 games over five big-league seasons. He ranks fifth all-time for the Dodgers in games played by a third baseman with 645.
The Dodgers also announced they have signed infielder-outfielder Terry Shumpert to a minor league contract and invited him to spring training.
The 36-year-old Shumpert batted .235 with six home runs and 21 RBIs in 106 games for the Colorado Rockies last season, appearing at five different positions. He has played every position but pitcher and catcher in his 13-year big-league career with Kansas City, Boston, the Chicago Cubs, San Diego and the Rockies
