whats up everybody i'm new to these boards so if im posting in the wrong place, sorry in advance.

I've been playing baseball for my whole life.
I just wanna know if there are any ball-players on this board that are training to become a pro.

I have been training hard lately but havent gotten recognition b/c i havent been able to join any teams for 2 yrs due to personal matters.

But i'm ready to return to the game now. I live in T.O, Canada and in my last year of High School.

Just wanna know what the best route to the pros is. ITs prob. best to go through a American college. If so which school is good for baseball??

Any feedback would be good.

peace out

You might try one of the camps put on by various colleges ... Might be a good way to get noticed ... Or find one of the many Junior Colleges, tons' of 'em in Florida, California, Arizona, Oklahoma and Texas walk-on there and try to get noticed by a major college ... Good luck with making your dream come true ... And when you do, don't forget your ol' Uncle PopTop gave you all that sage advice. :hmm:

be a switch-hitting catcher with talent.

Many eyebrows will raise in your direction with that pedigree.

I got a look or two, but nobody offered me a thing. I was a talented catcher, but I caught for two talented pitchers, so I was an afterthought. If I could switch-hit, I would've had a shot.

I coulda been a contenda

One upincombing school is Nebraska, its become very popular and they have a brand new stadium. Back to back College World Series. They have a coach named Mike Anderson this year after Dave Van horn ran off to his almamatter Arkansas. Of course I like Nebraska ;).

That's a good technique, because you're starting well, catching the ball with your shoulders square to the thrower (SS, 3B, etc.). Catch the ball, touch the bag with your left foot, then throw naturally. You end up throwing from the left field side of second base, which can buy you a small amount of extra time to avoid an overslide as well.

Another technique is to catch the ball on the right field side of the bag, touch it with your left foot and take a small step back and throw natural to first.

The third technique, which I find more erratic, is to catch the ball while crossing the bag and throwing to first on the mound or 3rd base side of the bag. My opinion is that could decrease your accuracy as you may tend to throw on the run, without realizing it.

I coached high school ball for five years and emphasized the first technique. Also, I've played a good amount of second base in fastpitch softball over the past 8 years, and I find the first technique to be very effective.

Hope that helps, and just remember, you can't practice your footwork enough.

Another thing, what u guys think about West Virginia?? I know its not up there with LSU, Texas, Nebraska and those schools but i heard good things about it. A few players were drafted into the MLB by them.

I have a good chance of going to this school even if i dont get noticed. I'll smoke the tryouts and make the team as a sub prolly for the first yr.

Anyways what feedback if any do u have on West Virginia?

On a sidenote, its kinda cool to hear that someone actually got drafted in the MLB from a Canadian school, University of BC. Go Canada!

Yep, my teacher from last year was a bench player for the home team, I saw a game, it was pretty cool.
