Korver Named National Player of the Week

Omaha, Neb.--Creighton men's basketball senior Kyle Korver has been named National Player of the Week by a pair of national media outlets. ESPN's Dick Vitale and collegeinsider.com both selected the 6-7 forward from Pella, Iowa.

Korver averaged 27.5 points and 7.0 rebounds while breaking a pair of records as Creighton matched its best start since 1942-43 with wins over Evansville and Southern Illinois last week.

He had 31 points, including a Creighton-record nine three-pointers, on Wednesday in a 37-point rout over Evansville. Then in a nine-point win over Southern Illinois, Korver had 24 points and 11 rebounds while breaking Shane Hawkins MVC record with 317 career three-pointers. Korver made five three-pointers in the game, including three in a 56-second span to break the mark and later hit a trey to put the Jays up for good.

For the week, Korver made 16-of-28 shots from the field (57.1 percent), 58.3 percent from three-point range (14-of-24) and was a perfect 100 percent (9-for-9) at the free throw line.

The announcement for Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week is made Monday afternoons by the league office.

I watched the first half of that game they had against Southern Illinois and I was not impressed. Sure, they won that game...but if they are "top 10" material, they shouldn't be struggling to beat Missouri Valley teams at home...
