I had dinner with a friend tonight, and we passed dozens of people with candles on the street while we were walking home. I got back to my apt., lit a candle and put it in the window.
As a born-and-raised New Yorker, I thank all of you for your concern. We are touched.

Yes I went outside with my husband at 7:00 tonight with our candles but I'm on a private road and didn't see anyone else outside.
My sister in Queens was outside with a whole bunch of people from her building and they were all singing songs which was nice especially that they were all from different races and all together as one. Some were of indian descent and have been having a rough time of it by others lately.
There is alot of hatred out there and it is sad to see amongst innocent children.

I took two candles outside and Bobby lit a really big bonfire. He said a candle wasn't enough!

I didn't come home until 10 minutes to 7 my time...but as soon as it was 7, I just went out to my front yard, lit my candle and said a prayer for all of the victims and their families and also for America. I kept my candle burning in the kitchen for some time.
I was watching the news last night and it was so nice to see people all over southern california getting together and holding vigils. There was one in downtown Long Beach yesterday, in Santa Monica, in Glendale, in L.A., in Huntington Beach, in Westminster...pretty much everywhere. There were people with flags, candles, sharing stories and comfort. The cars that passed by would honk their horns and yell out God Bless America. I heard that a relief fund set up in the Rose Bowl yesterday raised up to 200,000 dollars to be sent to NY and Washington. It was amazing to see how people in my community have come together and are helping out. So, you guys in NY and DC know that you're not alone.
At the relief fund in the Rose Bowl, there was a little boy who gave all of his $150 dollars to help the people in NY. He said that it was a whole year's allowance, but he wanted to donate the money for the kids that lost their parents. Wow. That really touched my heart, and the great thing is that there are stories like this all over the United States.

Now I think that is the sweetest thing I've ever heard of.
