Arizona Adds Relievers Villone, Jackson

PHOENIX -- The Arizona Diamondbacks added a pair of veteran arms, signing left-hander Ron Villone and right-hander Mike Jackson to minor league deals that include invitations to spring training.

Financial terms were not disclosed.

The 33-year-old Villone spent last season with the Pittsburgh Pirates, going 4-6 with a 5.81 ERA in 45 games. He was the Pirates' Opening Day starter but was more effective as a reliever, holding opponents to a .238 batting average in that role.

Villone has a 33-37 record with five saves and a 5.04 ERA over eight seasons with Seattle, San Diego, Milwaukee, Cleveland, Cincinnati, Colorado, Houston and Pittsburgh.

The 38-year-old Jackson was 2-3 with a 3.27 ERA in 58 games for the Minnesota Twins last season. He is a 17-year veteran with a 60-67 career mark, 142 saves and a 3.35 ERA.

Jackson ranks 10th on the all-time list with 960 appearances. He also has spent time with Philadelphia, Seattle, San Francisco, Cincinnati, Cleveland and Houston.
