SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic (Jan. 30) -- Boston first baseman David Ortiz, San Francisco shortstop Neifi Perez and Cincinnati outfielder Jose Guillen were subpoenaed Thursday to testify about a brawl that left a fan injured.

The three players, all Dominican, are to testify in Santiago. Prosecutor Jesus Mendez said Ortiz and Perez will be allowed to testify after they return from the Caribbean Series, which starts Sunday in Puerto Rico.

Danci Aramboles, a 33-year-old fan, jumped onto the field following a game on Jan. 26. Television footage showed Escogido Lions backup catcher Jorge Meran punching and kicking Aramboles. Police said another man, not yet identified, slugged Aramboles over the head with a bat.

Aramboles remained in critical condition Thursday with a fractured skull and internal bleeding.

Lawyers for Aramboles filed a lawsuit Wednesday against the major leaguers. Pittsburgh minor leaguer Yohanny Valera and minor league free agent Jorge Meran. They have not been charged with any crimes.

So are they just being held as witnesses to the brawl?
