Blue Jays Avoid Arbitration With Escobar
TORONTO -- Right-hander Kelvim Escobar and the Toronto Blue Jays agreed to a $3.9 million, one-year contract
Escobar, 26, was 5-7 with a 4.27 ERA and 38 saves last year, fifth-most in the American League. He made $2,525,000.
Toronto had offered $3.5 million in salary arbitration and he had asked for $4.6 million. Friday's settlement avoids a hearing.
In a career-high 76 games last year, Escobar struck out 85 and walked 44 in 78 innings. He has a 45-46 career record with 54 saves and a 4.66 ERA.
Toronto first signed him July 3, 1992.
