ever eaten cow's tongue?? I have been trying to get Lori to try some for several months and she won't. I finally ordered some from the meat market yesterday, though.. so once it gets here, I am hoping that she will try it.

Imgreat, we've been serving tacos de lingua at Taco Juan since the joint opened ... Seriously, tongue tacos were a pretty standard fare in my youth and then again abroad in the South China Sea ... I loev it, and most people would never know they were eating tongue if it's prepared correctly ... Interested in knowing how you're going to fix it ... We would boil it for a couple of hours, sort of skin it, then chop it up and throw it back in the skillet with onions, peppers, fresh lime juice, sauté it and put it on a fresh corn tortilla with queso blanco.
is it good? it would be cool to try things new, my favorite though is calamari

UJ --- You're in a perfect place to try tongue ... Head down I-10 towards town from Katy and stop at the Taqueria Arandas on the feeder between Mason and Fry Roads, I think ... Maybe closer to Barker-Cypress.
Order a couple of tacos de lingua ... You'll probably wonder what the big deal is since it's just going to taste like a beef taco to you.
yea i know where taqueria arandas is. do u know Los Cucos Pop top? thats my favorite

Well, PT, I am not entirely sure yet how I am going to prepare it. Usually, in the past, I put it into a slow cooker with some potatoes and baby carrots... Of course, you have to cut it up first so that it doesn't LOOK like a tongue... but ya know..
To me, it is the best roast beef I have ever had.

I don't know about an oinker's knees, but their feet can be pretty tasty ... Since I'm one of those weirdo's who will try just about anything once, I'm probably not a good source for the subject of eating "unconventional" dishes ... My abuelito would ask people who were hesitant when it came to beef tongue, "Would you rather eat something that resided close to the cow's brain, or close to its @ss?"

Farin, that would never work. She has vowed to never eat anything that i prepare that even remotely looks like roast beef.

Tongue is actually a Jewish delicacy. It can be served cold on rye bread (pastrami optional) with some spicy brown mustard, or it can be served hot. A kosher restaurant around here serves it with kind of a sweet and sour sauce with raisins. Yum yum yummy!!!

Sweet and sour tongue with raisins? Not exactly the sorta' meal that you'd find on your average person's table ... But it can't be much stranger than cold pork-n-beans on toast with mustard or a banana split with onion rings.
