Veteran Lockhart, Padres Come to Terms
SAN DIEGO -- The San Diego Padres agreed to terms with free agent infielder Keith Lockhart on a minor league contract for the 2003 season and invited him to spring training as a non-roster player.
Lockhart appeared in 128 games for the Atlanta Braves last season, batting .216 with 13 doubles, five home runs and 32 RBI.
Lockhart has appeared in a total of 917 major league games with San Diego, Kansas City and Atlanta. He batted .261 with 41 home runs and 260 RBI over nine years in the majors.
Lockhart is expected to join the Padres for spring training in Peoria, Ariz., later this month.
