I hate them all! All they do is spend and spend and spend and spend in the NHL and MLB. It is f'n ridiculous. Sickening.
HELLO MLB AND NHL. Get a salary cap already! Before it gets even more out of hand!
Do you see the Knicks or the Jets or the Giants dominating the NBA or the NFL? HELL NO! BECAUSE THERE IS A SALARY CAP TO KEEP THEIR RICH ASSES IN CHECK!
Ridiculous. I'm sure the f'n Muts and the f'n Skanks will be in the WS this year thanks to their huge payrolls.
And I"m sure the Rags will win the Stanley Cup next year with a huge payroll too. Thankfully, hockey might just do something about their problems here soon. i.e. Lockout in 2004. Thank God! I can not wait for the lockout!
But as for baseball...the sport that used to be my favorite? You can thank George Steinbrenner for ruining that sport for me....

With the Muts' huge payroll, they had better not miss the World Series.

Dan, I feel your pain man. I have the very same feelings and sentiments towards all of this.
Something needs to be done or baseball will die, period!

Sure, I've felt this way for a long time...but the Kovalev to the Rags trade today brough this all out once and for all...
A team that's in 11th place in the conference with pretty much no hope of making the playoffs gets one of the best forwards in the league. Basically, because they were one of the few teams that could take on his salary.
And what did the Penguins get in return? Crap. Absolute crap. And the reason why they get crap? Because the Rags know that they have to dump Kovalev because they can't afford him, just like most other teams in the league. But of course, the Rags can.
F it. F it all.
and don't even get me started on baseball...I could go on for hours...

We need a salary cap.
ESPECIALLY in Nascar :D
Is that the best sport w/ no salary cap or what?:clap2:

And this is in the Dugout Forum because....??? :umm
But since it is, I'll chime in with my 2 cents ... Get a grip, people! ... Steinbrenner's been killing baseball for how long now? ... One helluva' slow death, I'd say ... As I've stated before, your problem in baseball isn't Steinbrenner and his big fat revenue stream ... Tell you what I'll do, as soon as y'all get the other 28 owners to agree to spend a minimum, MINIMUM, of $85-$90 million a year on their player payrolls alone, I'll convince Steinbrenner he can't spend more than about $120 million and has to split all of his income with the rest of the league.
Blah-blah-blah Steinbrenner ... Get someone with a backbone in the commissioner's chair and find someone to convince Donald Fehr and the players union a salary cap is the only way for the sport to survive (which means opening up your real books for all to see) ... Until then, get off Steinbrenner's ass and wise up.

I love how those last two comments came from an Astros fan and a Cubs fan. :D :D :D :D (There, better?)
Two teams with pretty big payrolls themselves...
Oh, and this is in the dugout because it's not just referring to baseball...
They are only like 6 points out of the last playoff spot.....
Yeah, and they have played 3 more games than the team in the 8th spot and 4 more than the one in the 7th spot, so yall might as well be ten points out.
Doesnt help that our goalie has been out for months.....
Oh? Last time I checked, you guys raped the Predators shortly thereafter and got Dunham for nothing.
Must suck to have all that hatred built up
Well, I can tell you one thing, it sure makes it that much more enjoyable when the Pens beat the Rags...:D

Trust me, I do! But it really, really sucks that a team that sucks as much as them can make a trade for a top 5 forward...crap like this would not happen if there was a cap. If there was a cap, the Penguins wouldn't be close to bankrupcy just like half of the other teams in the NHL...

I moved it to this forum because I didn't think it belonged in the dugout first off... secondly I couldn't figure what other forum for it since it is about a lot of sports.

Spit it out, BPBlusSox, what are you really saying, that Astros and Cubs fans are somehow inferior and therefore can't have an opinion on this matter? That our teams are helping NYC destroy the game? Because if that's the case, your NYC theory just went out the door.
I'm not going to speak for Cub fans, but I believe Houston will come in under $70 million this year, $65 million is the number I keep hearing around here ... What's that, roughly a third what the Yankees will spend? ... I'm not complaining that Houston can't compete with the Yankees or the Mets or the Dodgers or the Rangers or whoever ... If you think you're ever going to get a salary cap lower than what Houston's "big payroll," you're kidding yourself ... I'll agree with you that there is a huge disparity in the payrolls, and I don't mind the talk about salary caps ... But any serious discussion has to keep in mind that your two biggest hurdles to getting a salary cap are:
1) The Players Union
2) The 28 owners not named Steinbrenner
When the New York teams single-handedly ruin everyone else's interest in baseball and hockey, and the fans in all the other cities quit attending the all of the baseball and hockey games, I'll buy into the theory that the sports are in danger and that those bad, mean ol' teams in New York are the sole culprits.

Sorry, guess I should have put a "smiley" face in there, since that was a joke about the Cubs and Astros fan.
Anyways, I kind of agree with you about the fact that ALL of the owners need to do something about the situation that baseball is in. However, Steinbrenner just makes it worse by driving up his payroll to astronomical levels. That's all.
and the fans in all the other cities quit attending the all of the baseball and hockey games
Look at stadiums and arenas around the two leagues, I'd say that people are starting to shy away...

My mistake ... Heck, I've put smilies and winkies on some of my comments and people still don't think they're in fun.
One more stat about Steinbrenner and then I'll leave the issue to die: The Yankees have NEVER signed a player to a new, record-setting contract.
Granted, some of that is due to the fact that there are a lot of players who want to play for the Yanks either because that was a favorite team of theirs growing up or that's the team they think they have the best shot to win a ring ... Not to mention, you can lose a little salary and make up for it in endorsements in NYC that you don't have the opportunity for in other places.
You can go back to former Houston owner John McMullen when he signed Nolan Ryan to the first million dollar deal in 1979 and come all the way up to Colorado and Texas signing Mike Hampton and Alex Rodriguez respectively to huge deals ... If Tom Hicks with the Rangers decides he wants to unload A-Rod's salary and Steinbrenner takes it on, is that the Yankees' fault? ... When Florida and Colorado are willing to pay a huge portion of Hampton's salary while he pitches for the Braves, is that the Yankees' doing?
I have to plead your basic total ignorance on the hockey issue (some will say the total ignorance applies for me in other areas as well :D) ... But I think that baseball owners have screwed the pooch so many times and missed the boat on the salary cap issue too long to ever get it past the players union in any form that will be agreeable to the 29 current morons running the Expos.

As much as it pains me to point this out, George Steinbrenner is not paying Alex Rodriguez $252 million to play on his team. Tom Hicks should not be given a free pass.
And don't forget that arbitration is very important in jacking up salaries. A scrub gets a raise no matter how badly he does. The judge has no choice other than to pick the team's number or the player's number. He can't tell them both to get real.

He can't tell them both to get real.
How awesome would that be if some judge did say that though? :D
Yeah, yeah, Hicks is a loser, too. First, he signs A-Rod to that huge contract...and then he starts cutting costs last year...interesting...

I think your just mad cuz the pirates suck so bad and cant afford to get any good players because no one comes to their games. Same with the Expos, Devil Rays, and Orioles.
Most of the money made for everyone's salary comes from the fan. Maybe all the teams that suck should promote coming to the ballpark.
They could sell tickets for half-price, or make a hot dog and a drink $1 off.

Not sure about what you have been watching, but the fact is that the Pirates have had pretty good attendance the past couple of years.
Not to mention that Dan is not mad about naythig having to do with the yankees and pirates. It has to do with the RANGERS!!!

Wasn't it impossible to get a ticket to Camden Yards a few years ago?
And it's not like the Skanks sell out every game either...
Oh, and by the way Mr. Georgia, how about those Braves..back in the 80's when they weren't winning, they were not even drawing a million fans a year...
Whay am I even mentioning this stuff to some bandwagoner anyways?
