Counsell won't rush back
Counsell
Craig Counsell remains optimistic he'll be ready for Opening Day, The Arizona Republic reported Feb. 6. The 32-year-old infielder is recovering from Sept. 18 surgery to repair a herniated disc in his neck. "I think I'll be ready (for Opening Day), but there's no rush. ... I'm feeling good. I'm getting a lot stronger." Counsell suffered the injury Aug. 9, when he dived for a ball and hopped to his feet to make the play. Counsell appeared in 112 games last season, hitting .282 with two homers, 51 RBI and 63 runs.
