As this states, Tram and company have obviously encouraged a few more to purchase tickets.

As much as i love the tigers, there is no way i am buying tickets to any games this year. You might not agree with me, but with little spending money i refuse to put more money into the Red Wings while my beloved tigers continue their fall from respectability. It's not that I'm a fairweather fan, casue the win/loss doesn't mean everything. But I at least want my favorite team to have a chance at winning.

Are you kidding??? They lower payroll, get rid of all their big names, add no one, and they higher ticket prices??? Last year, when the Pistons were in this position, they lowered prices, and everyone started going more. I guess thats why Bill Davidson is a better owner than Illitch.

I don't think any of the Tiger fans here would have an objection with your decision, GP. I struggle with that issue continously. As just about everyone here can tell you, I am not happy with Ilitch's reign as owner. Giving him any financial support does seem to be a fruitless venture.
In spite of that, I intend to give Mr. I my money three or four times in 2003.

i agree GP, but the fact remains that not going to see a few games this summer would be punishing myself not Illitch. plus a bonus is that i get to see my fist game of the season the Guru himself! looking forward to it James!
btw GP, good to see another Tiger fan arouund here!

I think a lot of Tigers fans are in the same boat with you GP, and that's the reason they're not drawing any fans. Maybe that will change this year as Ilitch has appeared to have may a reach from the past, bringing a chunk of '84 in the midst. For this year at least, I could care less if they win or lose. They brought back Trammell, that's good enough for me for right now.

The cynic in me would say that's precisely the reason Tram was brought in. To buy this team some time and credibility with the fans, not that he was the best manager available. The pessimist would also ask how long are you going to give Trammell and company that kind of patience? (Of course, Mr. I would ask if Trammell's arrival will get you to buy more tickets?)
However, like most Tiger fans, I would agree with you, Calder. I'm willing to give this group of kids, their new manager and the GM some time to grow together. 2003 is basically an evaluation/learning year from my perspective.
Next season is a slightly different story, as we should have a better idea which of the youngsters can play and the Tigers unload some salaries (Palmer and Paquette come immediately to mind). Mr. I, Dombrowski and Trammell should have some new goals by '04.

Elaborating on your point, it probably wouldn't matter who was managing them this year, they'll still only get 75 wins, max. Give Trammell a year to get acclimated, get some sort of style established. I'm not one of those people who think it takes a brain surgeon to be a big league manager. If you have the kind of baseball sense that Trammell does, then why not give the guy a shot? I'm looking forward to how he does. Yes, he was brought in partly because of public relations, but you know what, that's fine with me.

Oh, I agree with you, Calder. This team is almost certainly going to lose more than it wins for the next year or two regardless of who is in charge. As Trammell's odds for success are as good as any other candidate's, why not him? I can't think of anyone would brought as many positives to the organization as Trammell does. He seemed like the perfect choice for a number of reasons, PR just being one.
Btw, welcome to the Addicts boards.

Thanks. I was over at another site that Baseball Guru was at, and I visited his website the other day and this site was linked. I clicked and here I be. Like the traffic-flow on this board. But getting back to the Tigers, with Ernie retiring last year, that was the last feel-good link we had to yester-year, so I am glad Trammell was brought in, to be able to hold onto something. I was pretty livid when Garner said, "Thanks but no thanks" and shipped him on his way.

Letting Trammell go was a huge mistake by Garner. I'm sure he viewed it as self-preservation, but Garner's a veteran baseball guy, he should have handled it better. Frankly, he should have known better, too. Even without Tram casting a shadow over him daily, the former Tiger shortstop ended up getting his old job.
