I kind of got a gut feeling Shane will spend most of the time there, although i kind of hope someone else will take it.

We better all hope Palmer can play at least 100 games at either 3B, DH or both. He seems like the key offensively. A right handed power hitter would help offset lefties Higgy, Pena, Munson and the switch-hitting Young.
However, as we are already getting some very cautious reports on Palmer's availability, I selected Munson. He's out of options. His contract says he's got to be on the roster, so I suspect they will let him play if Palmer can't go.
Chapman's the same way, being a Rule V guy, but unless Palmer is unable to field and Munson is awful (or shipped out), Chapman will spend much of '03 watching.
I can't see Halter playing third regularly before Palmer, Munson or Chapman.

I just think, the way the it usually goes around here, that Palmer will be hurt after a few weeks, or just isn't able to feild. Munson won't be able to play third, and he'll be out of here, and Chapman will see some playing time thru out the year, but Halter will see more. But thats all just a logical prediction.

Come on, #1. They haven't even lost a Grapefruit League game yet and your already bringing me down. It took me three months to get excited again. Don't shoot down my hope already. Save that for Opening Day.
Seriously, you have every right to worry about Palmer. For me, it's just too early to assume to much about Munson's ability to play third and, frankly, I'd rather see Chapman at third than Halter.

I'm hopin for Munson. Whatdo we have to lose? Even if he isn't a great fielder i hope he gets a legit shot. I would hate to see us lose a first round pick without numerous attempts to see what he can do. If i remmebr correctly, he improved a lot over last season and even if he is a .260 15hr 70rbi guy, he is as good as we've had lately. The difference is he would have the chance to improve. If not Munson, hopefully chapman gets the same kind of opportunity. Halter i think best serves us as a utility guy like a couple years ago. Palmer i have given up on, I respect his determination, but year in year out the injuries disappoint us all.

Here's some more news on Munson's progress at third. As well as some other spring news from Lakeland.

Munson is scheduled to start in Thursday's Grapefruit League opener versus the Dodgers. Palmer is slated to start in Friday afternoon's contest.

I hope Munson but think Halter. Just don't see Munson fielding the HOT Corner.

I found this breif article on Munson:
• Tigers prospect Eric Munson played third base yesterday in a 19-2 exhibition victory over Florida Southern. An All-American catcher at USC, he subsequently moved to first base after the Tigers chose him with the third overall pick in 1999. Now, he's out of options, meaning the Tigers would risk losing him if they send him to the minors.
Munson, 25, made the move to third base during instructional league and continued to make the transition in the Puerto Rican League. Most scouts were left unimpressed with his defensive footwork. "It's a far reach for him to play third," one scout said after a trip to Puerto Rico. "A huge stretch."
Nevertheless, the Tigers are trying to find a spot for Munson's bat. He hit .262-24-84 at Triple-A Toledo last season, but Carlos Pena blocks him at first base and Dean Palmer and Rule 5 pick Travis Chapman--who played first base against Florida Southern--are the competition at third.

A rather positive report on Munson's progress at third. As Palmer continues to battle smaller injuries, I hope this is more than just spring training optimism.

How much worse could Munson be at third, than Palmer was, when he was healthy? Palmer was average at best defencivly. Munson has a good enough bat for them to keep Munson at third for awile.

I wish Halter would just go away. He got his money last year, and proceeded to stink up Comerica. Yeah, Halter should be playing third base....in Erie!!
Give it to Munson. What the hell do we have to lose?
"Oh, no!! We lost 107 games instead of 102? How could you make that move?"
