PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. -- The New York Mets signed left-hander Donovan Osborne to a minor-league contract Saturday invited him to spring training.

Osborne's contract will pay him $12,500 per month in the minors or $450,000 a year if he makes the major league team.

"I told him I couldn't promise him anything at all and he was still willing to take that sort of opportunity to come in and get an inning or two early when guys aren't stretched out," Mets general manager Steve Phillips said. "It's with an understanding he's not going to get a commitment for a lot of work."

Osborne made 11 relief appearances for the Chicago White Sox last season, going 0-1 with a 6.19 ERA. In his eight-year career with St. Louis and the White Sox, Osborne has a 47-46 record with a 3.96 ERA.

The Mets now have 10 left-handed pitchers in camp.

10 left handed pitchers to go along with there 10 outfielders!!!

Well think of it this way if worse comes to worse we have a left handed pitcher for every position on the field + one 1st or 3rd base coach!!

Definitely should have some leverage in trades with teams always looking for a left handed pitcher...

Vin, he used to be a starter with the Cards...In fact he was a starter over there for 6 years before going to relief the last 2 years...

He was actually out of baseball for a few years...

He has good career #'s.....He's 47-46 with a decent 3.96 career ERA.....
His ERA has been gradually rising though...Lets see if he can regain some magic with the Mets...:gt:

Funney last year we needed lefties now we have a surplus. Maybe the record this year will but 118 and 44 :D
