Some other notes ...

The Kid went 3-4 with a triple. Heard recently he had laser eye surgery and he finally realized he wasn't really seeing the ball before (d'oh!). Perhaps he'll be a .300+ hitter again?

Doster was 1-1 with a run and RBI. The odds of him making the club are very long, but this is his second good game.

John Barnes, who is my darkhorse to make the team as a fourth outfielder, was 1-1.

Hyzdu and Mackowiak were 2-4 with a run scored; Hyzdu hit a homer.

Mark Gulan was 2-5, also his second good game and also another player whose chances of making the team are very small.

Jose Castillo was 1-3 at the plate. He's having a great spring, which is bad for me because I am (was) really looking forward to watching him this season.

Fogg gave up back to back homers in the first. Went 2 innings with 6 hits, 4 runs (all earned), 2 Ks. Three HRs total.

Suppan went 2 innings; 3 hits two runs all earned with a walk and strikeout.

Beimel, Figueroa, Bullington (his first game against a MLB team) and Mann all pitched a scoreless inning and Mann was the only one to give up a hit. Figueroa had one strikeout and Mann two.

I know we have him penciled in as a sure starter, but I wonder if that is really so? He had a great rookie year, but how many times have we seen guys flop the second time around? I feel Josh has the make up to be a good pitcher, but what if he has a horrible spring and Vogelsong, Meadows, Torres and D'Amico all have strong ones? Is it possible he wouldnt even make the rotation or is he given a spot based on last year? And what about Suppan? You all know what I think of him! Will it really be the best man wins this year?

I'm worried about Fogg too Greymire. I'm not sure he can be relied on for 10+ wins. If memory serves, last year he kind of tailed off after the All-Star break.

I do believe it will be a best man wins situation. If Torres and Meadows have great springs, I think both have to start. Suppan is a lock (could've had him on a minor league contract) as are Benson and Wells, so we have two spots left. Fogg has a good chance of being in the rotation, but I do think he'll have to earn it.

Only a team with the history like that of the Red Sox could permit
you to say that about such a good team.
