TUCSON, Ariz. -- In his first start of the spring, right-hander Juan Cruz allowed four runs (three earned) on one hit, four walks and two hit batsmen in 1 1/3 innings as the Cubs lost a split-squad game to the Colorado Rockies, 7-1, at Hi Corbett Field on Monday.
Cruz (0-1) went 3-11 with a 3.98 ERA in 45 appearances, including three starts, last season.


Against the Rockies, Cruz walked the bases loaded, then hit Jose Hernandez and Greg Norton to force in runs for a 2-0 deficit. He allowed a total of four runs, three earned.

Rockies pitching held the Cubs to five hits, one of which was an RBI single by Midre Cummings.

Sheesh, this guy is a walking machine who seems to always have the one big/bad inning, either from his walks or his fielding lets him down:(

yah. if he could get rid of that one bad inning he would be great. thats why he's better as a short reliever. that way he doesnt have as much chance to spontaneous combust.
