If Lidle can do what he did in the second half of last year, the Jays are playoff contenders.

Ok I will post all of the Spring training scores here. The Jays won today again, they are 4-0 in pre-season.

Sturtze shakes off last year's blues in Toronto blue

DUNEDIN, Fla. -- The Blue Jays played some sloppy baseball on Tuesday but still managed to find a way to win. Despite three errors, the Jays scored five runs in the eighth inning to earn a 10-9 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates at Dunedin's Grant Field. That win represented Toronto's fourth in as many games during the exhibition season.
Tanyon Sturtze, coming off a nightmare season in Tampa Bay, pitched well in his first game as a Blue Jay. The right-hander gave up just one hit in his brief outing, and he left the game with a one-run lead. In all, Sturtze threw 33 pitches, 24 of them for strikes. He said that pitching for his new team gave him some closure from last season, when he won just four out of 22 decisions.

"I'm starting to get over that and today was a good start. Going out in a different uniform with a different team helps out a lot," he said. "I felt good, I'm starting to feel a little bit stronger. We've been doing a lot of work in the morning. Things are starting to feel a little bit easier."

Orlando Hudson also had a big day for the Blue Jays. The second baseman made a diving catch on a sinking liner early in the game, hit a two-run homer later on and finished up by driving in the go-ahead run. Corey Thurman, one of Toronto's relief pitchers, tossed two perfect innings.

Pittsburgh scored three times in the sixth, aided by two Toronto errors. Three more runs came in the seventh, keyed by a double by Tony Alvarez off the wall in left-center field.

The Blue Jays came back with two runs in their half of the seventh and five more in the eighth. Dave Berg homered to start the final rally, and Jayson Werth came through with a game-tying sacrifice fly. Hudson blooped a single into short left field to drive in the go-ahead run. Kevin Cash drove in the final runs with a double off the wall in left-center field.

Pittsburgh loaded the bases in the ninth inning, putting the tying run on first base with no outs. Vinny Chulk walked one run in before the Jays went to the pen. Brian Bowles came in the game and erased the scoring threat. He got one out on a short fly to left field and one on a fielder's choice. One run scored on that latter play, but Bowles ended the game with a ground ball to first base.

The Jays will continue the Spring Training schedule on Wednesday at Grant Field, with a game against the Cincinnati Reds. Roy Halladay will make his second start of the spring, and he'll be matched up against Chris Reitsma.

Ok we are at 6-2 at spring training. Sturtze won today and beat Kennedy who is the closest thing Tampa has to an ace.

The Pirates' Spring Training facility got soaked with torrential rains on Sunday, canceling the scheduled game between Pittsburgh and Toronto. The Blue Jays planned on starting Mark Hendrickson against Pittsburgh's Kip Wells, but the downpour washed that all away

DUNEDIN, Fla. -- So that's why they call it Spring Training. The Blue Jays earned a victory over the Tampa Bay Devil Rays on Tuesday night, unless it's more correct to say the road team gave the game away. The Blue Jays went on to win 9-5, but not before the Devil Rays made five errors that accounted for five unearned runs.
Hector Luna, Tampa Bay's shortstop, made four errors by himself. Two miscues contributed to Toronto's six-run third inning, with two more coming in the home team's two-run fourth. When he caught a line drive later in the latter inning, the Dunedin crowd serenaded him with a mock standing ovation.

Toronto's Shannon Stewart had three of the team's seven hits and drew a walk in his fourth plate appearance. Tom Wilson also had a productive day at the plate, drawing three walks. Tuesday also marked the return of two Toronto regulars -- Carlos Delgado and Orlando Hudson. Both players scored runs in Toronto's rout, which brought the team's record to 12-8-3.

Pete Walker pitched well for the Jays, working into the sixth inning. The swingman allowed six hits and four runs on the evening, racking up his highest pitch count of the spring season. In all, he threw 89 pitches, 59 for strikes.

Toronto will continue the Spring Training schedule on Wednesday with a road game against the Philadelphia Phillies. The game will start at 1 p.m., with the Phils' Kevin Millwood matched up against Roy Halladay.
