I have no idea what will get this team over the hump. There seems to be no end to poor pitching performances and it isn't always the starter. Loiselle, Sauerbeck & Mike Williams have been getting rocked of late. Manzanillo has been hot or cold, not much in-between...

This has become a long summer for us fans, believe me, and I can only have hope for a better future with a new GM, front office, and look for the growth of homegrown talent. I wrote an article once that basically asked the team to keep their wallets in their pockets last year at FA market time. The money would be much better spent on the developing of players from within our own system. I still firmly believe that to be true.

3-2 Changeup

I'll say it again, "What is Bill Virdon teaching Mac?" Is Mac ignoring Virdon, or is Virdon going senile? Is Virdon even traveling with the club?

"Struck 'eem out on a 3-2 changeup to end the inning."

Jimbo, nothing, absolutely nothing, will get this team over the hump. I've thought that to myself over and over and over again. First time was when the Bucs swept Cleveland. Maybe this will get them started, I thought. Well it didn't. Then, after the sweep of Milwaukee and Montreal and Cincy coming up, I thought I was positive they would go on a roll. Then Montreal swept them. Now they go to Cincy. They are lousy at home. So I am fully expecting Cincinatti to win the series. Then they still have to go to Chicago to play the Sox. And they've been hot recently.

The biggest problem with this team lies within the manager. He does not know how to get the most talent possible out of this team. How many times has he let Wilson rot on the bench with the tying run on base. How many times has he let Loiselle pitch when he was in a jam. How many times has he lost the game by letting someone play where they shouldn't. How many chances has Bell been given. How many times has eh called someone up "for the lefthanded bat" only to see him get 6 AB's in 15 games. How many times has he taken a guy out prematurely. How many times has he scolded young pitchers in the media. And I could go on and on. The list of Mac's mishaps is endless. So until this team gets a new manager, the results will be the same.
