TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) --- Mendy Lopez hit a two-run homer and six Kansas City Royals pitchers combined on a four-hitter in a 3-0 victory over the Colorado Rockies on Friday.
Colorado starter Scott Elarton threw three scoreless innings and retired his first eight batters.
Elarton, acquired from Houston for Pedro Astacio in 2001, missed last season after having right shoulder surgery in March. He allowed one hit and struck out two.
It was the second successful outing of the spring for Elarton, who pitched two hitless innings in his debut March 2 against Anaheim.
Kansas City starter Miguel Ascencio pitched two innings of one-hit ball and struck out two. The right-hander went 4-7 with a 5.11 ERA as a rookie last season and figures to be the third or fourth starter in the rotation this year.
The 22-year-old Ascencio made the Royals' opening day roster as a reliever last season but worked his way into the rotation and made 21 starts.
"(Ascencio) looked good,'' Colorado manager Clint Hurdle said. "They pitched better than us.''
Royals relievers Kyle Snyder and Sean Lowe each pitched two innings of one-hit ball.
Aaron Cook, one of Colorado's top prospects, allowed two unearned runs on one hit in three innings.
Kansas City first baseman Ken Harvey was hit in the back of a helmet by a pitch from reliever Nelson Cruz in the ninth inning, but was checked by the trainer and was in good condition after the game. Harvey did not lose consciousness.
