VIERA, Fla. (AP) _ Tony Armas Jr. pitched four scoreless innings and struck out seven as the Montreal Expos beat the Houston Astros 3-2 on Saturday.

Armas struck out six batters in a row in the second and third innings, including five straight looking.

"I was just trying to throw strikes and work on my pitches,'' he said. "All of my pitches were working. I just need to have confidence, especially in my changeup. I just try to go out and have fun. That's the most important thing.''

Shane Reynolds started for the Astros, going four innings. He gave up one run on three hits. Greg Miller took the loss.

Vladimir Guerrero was 1-for-2 with an RBI single. He got the Expos started, knocking in the first run.

Luis Ayala was the winning pitcher for the Expos. Scott Sandusky knocked in the winning run in the ninth with a hit over a drawn-in outfield.

"I like to see that,'' Expos manager Frank Robinson said. "Our starters were out, but the guys played hard and helped us win. Some of these guys are battling for jobs, and they may come up in this situation during the season. It's good to see.''

Lance Berkman was 1-for-3 for the Astros, while Craig Biggio went 0-for-3. Jeff Kent and Jeff Bagwell did not play.

Notes: Astros SS Julio Lugo made his first start after missing the first eight games of spring training with a sore right shoulder. He was 0-for-3. ... The Expos agreed to terms with RHP Tomo Ohko on a one-year contract.
