PHOENIX -- Mark Prior threw four scoreless innings in his third spring start Sunday as the Chicago Cubs beat the Oakland Athletics, 8-6, in a split-squad game before 6,107 sunburned fans at Phoenix Municipal Stadium.
Prior, the Cubs' 2001 No. 1 draft pick, gave up five hits and walked one. He struck out three, including American League MVP Miguel Tejada twice.

Hee Seop Choi had two hits and drove in two runs, while shortstop Alex Gonzalez, making his first start after being slowed by a sore right hamstring, went 2-for-3, including an RBI double.

Sammy Sosa, the Cubs' designated hitter, went 2-for-3 with an infield single and a double.

In his first at-bat, Gonzalez hit an RBI double off Oakland's Mark Mulder in the first to score Tom Goodwin, who had walked. Sosa reached on an infield single and Gonzalez scored on Moises Alou's groundout. Choi hit a broken bat single to score Sosa and make it 3-0 and David Kelton added an RBI single.

In the A's fifth, Tejada hit a sacrifice fly and Ron Gant added an RBI single off Alan Benes.
