Devil Rays Send Truby to Minors
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- The Tampa Bay Devil Rays reassigned third baseman Chris Truby and four other players to minor league camp as manager Lou Piniella trimmed his roster to 40 players.
Truby batted .215 with four homers and 22 RBI last season for Montreal and Detroit. He spent the previous two years with the Houston Astros.
Infielder Justin Baughman, left-handed pitchers Edgar Huerta and Jon Switzer, and catcher Sandy Martinez also were reassigned to minor league camp.
Right-hander Luis De Los Santos was optioned to Triple-A Durham. Infielder Felix Escalona and right-hander Doug Waechter were optioned to Double-A Orlando.
The Devil Rays entered spring training with a major league-high 73 players.
