Expos' Hernandez Has Sore Rotator Cuff

VIERA, Fla. (March 18) -- Orlando Hernandez will be sidelined for seven to 10 days because of tendinitis in his right rotator cuff.

The right-hander was diagnosed with the ailment Sunday after complaining of soreness following his last start, on March 13 against Cleveland. In that start, Hernandez pitched four shutout innings and allowed just two hits.

"It makes me start thinking about other people,'' Expos manager Frank Robinson said Tuesday. "No decision will be made yet. We may not have to put him on the disabled list.''

Hernandez had been scheduled to start Tuesday's game against the Baltimore Orioles, but he was ordered to rest.

If the problem persists, Robinson said Hernandez will be put on the disabled list and the team will investigate if surgery is an option.

"This is just one of those injuries where well have to wait and see,'' Robinson said.

If Hernandez is put on the disabled list, the Expos would be down to three definite starters. Zach Day, Sunny Kim, Britt Reames and T.J. Tucker are vying for the fifth spot.
