MESA, Ariz. -- Lenny Harris hit a two-run single in a four-run eighth inning to lead the Chicago Cubs to a 5-2 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers Monday before 9,471 at HoHoKam Park.
Dave Veres, one option to fill in for injured closer Antonio Alfonseca, pitched the ninth for his fourth spring save.
Starter Mark Prior, who will likely be third in the rotation when the Cubs open the regular season, gave up two runs on five hits and one walk over five innings. He struck out six, and has 17 strikeouts in 18 innings this spring.
Prior retired the first two batters he faced in the game, then hit Richie Sexson. John Vander Wal singled and both scored on Jeffrey Hammonds' double.
Trenidad Hubbard scored from third on Mark Grudzielanek's groundout in the Cubs sixth to make it 2-1. Hubbard also made a great catch at the right-field wall when he snagged Hammonds' fly ball to end the eighth.
The Cubs took advantage of Milwaukee mistakes to go ahead in the eighth. Chicago had runners at first and second and none out when Hubbard popped up to the catcher on a bunt attempt.
Felix Pie then blooped a single into shallow center to load the bases and Augie Ojeda was safe on a fielder's choice, allowing a runner to score to tie the game at 2-2. Curtis Leskanic hit Charles Gipson with a pitch to force in the go-ahead run, and one out later, Harris singled to drive in Pie and Ojeda.
