Jays go to New York to face the Yankees this time in Yankee Stadium for the first four game series of the year.
Tanyon Sturtze (2-0, 1.98 ERA) vs. Andy Petitte (2-0, 2.13 ERA) Edge Even. Both pitchers are hot right now.
Roy Halladay (0-1, 3.66 ERA) vs Mike Mussina (2-0, 2.57 ERA) Edge New York. Halladay is throwing strikes but doesent have enough offensive support to beat Moose.
Cory Lidle (1-2, 5.12 ERA) vs. David Wells (2-0, 0.53 ERA) Edge New York. As much as I hate to say it, Wells is doing well.
Pete Walker (1-0, 1.46) vs. Jeff Weaver (0-0, 4.61) Edge New York. Walker is hot but he doesent pitch enough innings to be ahead of Weaver.

Shit, we are down both games in this series. We actually showed promise after the Minnesota and Boston series. Now what?

well we are up 6-5 right now against NYY. THe only thing that seems to matter is that Delgado is swinging the bat really well( 3 run homer today). I want him to have MVP numbers. Maybe he will help me take my mind of Seau.

Yes, Jays won 7-6. That ends the losing streak!!!
Jays finally beat Yankees to end six-game slide
April 16, 2003
SportsLine.com wire reports
NEW YORK -- After playing the New York Yankees six times already this season, the Toronto Blue Jays know how difficult it is to beat them.
Carlos Delgado hit a three-run homer and Dave Berg's RBI double broke a sixth-inning tie as Toronto snapped a six-game losing streak Wednesday night with a 7-6 victory over the Yankees.
"We feel pretty good about the win, especially any time you win against these guys," Blue Jays manager Carlos Tosca said.
Toronto starter Cory Lidle (2-2) blew a 5-0 lead in the fifth, but the Blue Jays bounced back to beat New York for the first time in six meetings this year.
David Wells, who pitched a three-hit shutout against Minnesota in his last start and entered with a 0.53 ERA, gave up 11 hits and five runs in five innings.
The Blue Jays took a 6-5 lead in the sixth on Berg's RBI double off little-used reliever Sterling Hitchcock (0-1).
"Tonight was just a matter of doing too much and giving a good impression," Hitchcock said. "It was more a matter of trying to get comfortable. My stuff was there, just a matter of locating."
Hitchcock was making just his second appearance of the season.
"He hasn't had a lot of work, so it's unfair to judge him at this time," Yankees manager Joe Torre said.
Wells did not walk a batter and struck out seven.
"He had a good warmup but just wasn't very good," Torre said. "He was frustrated. He threw the ball hard but wasn't very consistent."
Tom Wilson added a solo homer in the ninth for the Blue Jays.
Kelvim Escobar got three outs for his second save, allowing a leadoff homer to Alfonso Soriano in the ninth before striking out Jorge Posada -- who went 0-for 5 -- with runners at the corners to end it.
"A five-run lead in the American League is not a big lead, unlike the National League. You're always prepared for those things," Tosca said.
The Blue Jays got to Wells in the fourth, ending his scoreless streak at 19 innings. Josh Phelps led off with a single and Wilson doubled off the right-center field wall. Wilson overran second, thinking Phelps was about to score, but no one was covering the bag.
Eric Hinske followed with an RBI grounder, and Mike Bordick drove in a run with a two-out bloop single.
Delgado's fifth homer made it 5-0 in the fifth. Berg started the inning with a leadoff single and Vernon Wells followed with a double.
The Yankees rallied in the bottom half with six consecutive hits. Robin Ventura started it with a double, and Raul Mondesi drove in Ventura with an RBI single.
Erick Almonte followed with a bunt single, Soriano singled to score Mondesi and Nick Johnson added an RBI single to right.
Berg's errant throw to the plate skipped toward the dugout, enabling Soriano and Johnson to advance. Jason Giambi, who came in batting just .200 with three home runs and five RBI, hit a two-run double to tie it.
"The positive part was that we kept coming back," Giambi said. "We had our chances. We had a couple of guys on at third but we didn't get them in."
Notes
Yankees starters remained 9-0 this year.
Lidle lasted only five innings. He allowed five runs and seven hits.
The Yankees put runners on second and third in the sixth with none out, but left-hander Trever Miller struck out Johnson to end the threat.
Vernon Wells had two singles and a double. He is 6-for-12 on the road trip.
Lidle retired seven in a row before giving up six straight hits in the five-run fifth inning.
