Fan in Oakland Accused of Biting Officer's Finger

OAKLAND, Calif. -- A man at an Athletics' game nearly bit off a police officer's pinkie this week, according to authorities, the second problem this month with a fan in Oakland.

Police said Joseph Cooper, a 21-year-old from Martinez, was arrested Wednesday night along with his sister, Rachelle Cooper, a 24-year-old from Pleasant Hill.

On April 19, a Union City man allegedly threw a cell phone at Texas Rangers outfielder Carl Everett.

The Coopers apparently got into an argument with another man. When Oakland police officer Dan Royal tried to help Coliseum security, Joseph Cooper bit his pinkie finger to the bone, police said.

Royal said he lost feeling in the finger before Cooper finally let go. Royal was taken to a hospital where he was treated and referred to a hand specialist.
