Hentgen gets first start vs. Tigers
Tigers (5-25) at Orioles (16-15), 7:05 p.m. ET

BALTMORE -- Pat Hentgen will get his best chance at his first win since Tommy John surgery Tuesday when he faces the Tigers for the second time in five days. He allowed just one run in 5 2/3 innings of relief of Rodrigo Lopez last week. He walked four and struck out two, allowing just three hits.

The opposing pitcher could be looking for revenge. Mike Maroth took a no-hitter into the eighth inning last Thursday at Comerica Park. He pitched well enough to win, but might have stayed in a bit too long -- not only did he lose the no-hitter, he lost the game. He finished with four earned runs in 7 2/3 innings, striking out five.

The Orioles are in another one of their offensive slumps. The club has just one run in the past 18 innings and has been stymied by the combination of Chris George and Nate Cornejo. Maroth gave the O's all types of problems with his curveball in his last outing.

The O's have won 14 of their past 23 games and five of eight as they try to race past .500 mark and catch Boston in the American League East. The Orioles are 3 1/2 games behind the Red Sox. Baltimore will head on a seven-game road trip to Kansas City and Chicago after this series.

0-1, 4.70 in 2003 vs. BAL
1-1, 2.25 in lifetime vs. BAL

Players to watch: Hentgen wants to be in someone's starting rotation soon. With a strong outing in front of scouts, perhaps he could become a valuable commodity for clubs come July. He is eager to prove he still has the talent to win in the Major Leagues.

Quotable: "Hopefully we can come to the park tomorrow with a better attitude and move on," -- Orioles first baseman Jeff Conine after the disappointing loss Monday to the Tigers.
