ROCKIES NEED A CATCHER

The Rockies probably don't have the payroll flexibility to add a right-handed slugger, but they likely will try to trade for a young catcher -- someone such as the Expos' Michael Barrett, Padres' Ben Davis or Cardinals' Eli Marrero. Of course, Barrett might be available in a dispersal draft.

I've always thought Jason would look good in a Rockie uniform. With his new contract extension, I doubt the Rox would even think about him, unless a deal to unload salary could be made, maybe involving Cirillo and/or Neagle.

The only rumors I've heard this early is Danny Bautista may be a possibility to fill the slot for a RH power hitter. As far as a catcher, the only name I've heard mentioned is Todd Pratt, but while he's solid behind the plate, he still hits like Christina Aguilera (she may even hit better).

It's still a little early to tell what may be in the works. I'm kinda' waiting to see what's going to happen with the contract talks and this contraction BS. Baseball is in a mess right now.

Derek Bell??? I hope he's not in the Rockie's future. Seriously, with both the Pirates and Rockies probably both looking to cut salary, or at least not wanting to take any more on, a deal between them isn't likely. You never know, though, as stranger things have happened.
