Should the Mets make a move to help obtain some young talent by unloading Piazza? I think that the time is right. I see Piazza as an American League type player. He's not a very good catcher and he'd be better served to play 1B and DH. He's an incredible hitter who should get out from behind the plate. In my opinion, if he got with the right AL team, he'd be a triple crown candidate. If the Mets made the right kind of move, they could pick up some young talent to help them out of their funk. They are doing the same things the Yankees did in the early-mid 80's....picking up the wrong free agents(Mo Vaughn, Roberto Alomar) The Yankees picked up mistakes like Steve Kemp, Dave Collins, Ed Whitson. Piazza needs to get to the AL and the Mets need to get something in return. For starters, I think the Red Sox might be a good fit. It would be interesting to see Piazza in a Red Sox uniform. Just food for thought or argument, etc.

Piazza in Boston?!?! :nah

I agree with your idea.... (except the Boston part :) )

Piazza would do better in the AL where he could DH and he isn't going to help the Mets much..... The trick for the Mets is working the right trade for him :bigsquare

On May 23rd, Mike Piazza becomes a 10 and 5 player, which means that if he is traded he can only be traded to a few select teams, and mark my words, he will not be traded.

Piazza has been traded. His performance has been supar and the Mets are going through--are in the process of some mazor shakeups..particularily in management. Certainly, theMets have made some mistakes in their decision making. They are not a healthy organization. Therefore, no one is safe. Mike Piazza is a tough player. He's probably the best hitting catcher of all time. But he was a Dodger who, I'm sure, was going to be in Dodger blue forever.. We all know how that turned out. Tom Seaver didint' stay with the Mets. Especially in today's environment. Loyalty is not part of the equation. I don't blame Met fans for wanting to keep him. But, his trade may be the first stepping stone toward a better Met future. If I were Piazza's agent, I would urge hime to move to the AL. Over there, Mike might produce offensive stats that would place him on tlhe top shelf of all time players. In NY, he'll wind down to mediocrity. Just my opinion of course.

Might as well get something for the guy before he becomes to old and all not to. Get some players now wouldn't be a bad idea as he still has a couple good years left.

Piazza better start playing better ball or the Mets can forget about getting lots of good prospects for him in a trade. :) His numbers are way down.... (3HR and 6RBI ) And he might not even make the all-star team with Pudge and Kendall playing so well in the N.L.

Figures..... I finally get Piazza on my fantasy team and he has a crappy year! :banghead

The Mets would never trade Piazza right now. He's the one that gets the fans to the ballpark. He's not going anywhere.

I do happen to agree that he still has trade value at the moment, would be better suited as a DH at this point, etc. But the biggest draw is not getting sent off.
