After getting booed for six straight games at home, Roger Cedeno hopes to get some peace on the road when the New York Mets visit the Colorado Rockies for the opener of a three-game series.
Cedeno has been a main target for frustrated Mets fans, who see him as a reason their team is in last place in the NL East. However, the outfielder did his best to turn the boos into cheers on Sunday when he tripled and scored the winning run in the eighth inning of New York's 3-2 win over San Diego.

``I can't control the fans. They're going to boo us,'' Cedeno said. ``You kind of get used to it after a while.''

While Cedeno comes in hitting just .242, he has been hot over the last 11 games, with 12 hits in 32 at bats (.375). The Mets are hoping he starts playing like he did back in 1999 during his first tour of duty in New York, when he hit a career-high .313 and set a team record with 66 stolen bases.

``You can't lose your confidence. I just try to stay positive and not think about the negative things,'' Cedeno said. ``When things go bad, you just try to do your best.''

The Rockies, meanwhile, are coming into this series slumping, after posting a 2-7 record on their just completed road trip. Colorado lost two of three in its weekend series at Florida, including a 7-2 defeat on Sunday.

Preston Wilson was one of the few bright spots on the trip for the Rockies, going 13-for-33 (.394) with four homers and 12 RBIs. Wilson, a former Marlin, was 6-for-12 (.500) with two homers and six RBIs in the series against Florida.

``It doesn't matter where you are,'' Wilson said. ``Going home doesn't mean it's going to get any easier. You have to execute, throw strikes and get hits with runners in scoring position. If you don't do those things, it doesn't matter where you play.''

The Rockies are returning home for seven games at Coors, where they have won 11 of 15 this season.

STANDINGS: Mets - 5th place, 8 1/2 GB, NL East. Rockies - 3rd place, 9 GB, NL West.

METS PROBABLE STARTER: Steve Trachsel (0-2, 4.95 ERA). Trachsel pitched well against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Wednesday, but finished on the short end of a 2-1 decision. The veteran right-hander allowed just two runs and five hits over seven innings, while striking out four and walking two. The Mets are 1-6 in games he has started this season. Trachsel is 6-6 with a 4.84 ERA lifetime against the Rockies.

ROCKIES PROBABLE STARTER: Jason Young (0-0, 0.00 ERA). After an injury to Nelson Cruz caused the Rockies to shuffle their rotation, Young has been called up to make his first career start. At Triple-A Colorado Springs, he was 3-1 with a 3.82 ERA. Young will likely be sent back down after Monday's game.

OFFENSIVE LEADERS: Mets - Mike Piazza, .292 avg.; Tony Clark, 6 HRs; Cliff Floyd, 17 RBIs; Ty Wigginton, 19 runs; Roberto Alomar, 4 SBs. Rockies - Jay Payton, .338 avg.; Wilson, 9 HRs, 36 RBIs and 5 SBs.; Todd Helton, 34 runs.

6-6, 4.84 lifetime vs. COL

COL: RHP Jason Young
2003 record: Major League debut

On paper this looks llike it could be a long wild game....

In reality, with Trax pitching and that nice juicy ERA around 5, it probably will be long and high scoring for at least the Rockies....

On the other hand the Rox counter with Young, who is making his 1st major league start....Good news for the Mets to get their hands on a young pitcher making his 1st start in Coors???
Well not so fast.....The Mets have a habit into making rookie pitchers look like superstars....With that great offense of thier I have seen many a time a rookie pitcher have their best games vs the Mets...
Will that happen tonight?? Time will tell...
9pm on the East Coast so I better get a nap in as it will be over pretty late....

Hot prospect Young to make debut
Mets (16-21) at Rockies (17-20), 9:05 p.m. ET
By Charlie Nobles / MLB.com

DENVER -- Jason Young, Colorado's second-round pick in the 2000 draft whose $2.75 million bonus was the largest in Rockies history, will make his Major League debut Monday against the Mets.

Manager Clint Hurdle had several pieces of advice for him.

"I told him not to buy a house when he gets there," Hurdle said. "Just pitch well when you get there."

To make room for the Young, who is 6 feet 5 inches tall, reliever Dan Micelli was designated for assignment.

"He looked good in the spring, and it'll give us an opportunity to take a look at him, see what he can bring," Hurdle said. "We're looking at options right now, to see if we can tighten up our pitching staff."

Rockies-Ronnie Belliard could be heating up. The second baseman had three hits Sunday, though two stayed in the infield. ... Todd Helton, 2-for-10 in the three-game series against the Marlins, should be anticipating a return to Coors Field, where his numbers are far more impressive. Helton also has had success against Trachsel, against whom he has gone 6-for-17, with two homers and four RBIs in his career. ... Rockies right fielder Larry Walker also has hit well against Trachsel, batting .387 with three homers, three doubles and seven walks.

Mets-Roger Cedeño went 4-for-11 on the Mets' six-game homestand. He hit his first triple Sunday and scored the winning run in a 3-2 game. Cedeño owns a .356 career batting average at Coors Field with 21 hits in 59 at-bats.

Quotable:
"He's at .341 on Mother's Day, and that's not a bad place to be. I don't think I was ever there." -- Hurdle on the hitting of left fielder Jay Payton.

Quotable: "I know that these guys are really close-knit. They really are. That thing with Mike [Piazza sparking a bench-clearing brawl against the Dodgers] showed that these guys couldn't wait to get out there. Just in their conversations, you know that they genuinely like each other. They pull for each other and root for each other all of the time, which is, in a way, a little surprising to me because it's a veteran team. You'd think they'd be a little more laid back, but they get into it."-- Howe on the Mets

Quick hits: Jaime Cerda is back with the Mets. The left-handed reliever was recalled from Triple-A Norfolk after Sunday's game when the team placed reliever Scott Strickland on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right groin. ... The Mets have nine comeback wins this season, including their last two wins. ... Armando Benitez notched his 150th save with the Mets on Sunday. He ranks second, behind teammate John Franco, on the team's all-time list. ... Entering Sunday's game against the Marlins, former Met Jay Payton was batting .341 with five homers, 18 RBIs and 29 runs scored.

Quick hits: Closer Jose Jimenez has allowed left-handed hitters to amass 25 hits in 48 at-bats off him this season. He has allowed at least two runs in five of his appearances. ... Preston Wilson homered in the first two games of the series against the Marlins, then went 3-for-4 with an RBI on Sunday.
