Ruth 'Mascot' Dead
Ray Kelly, who at age 3 was recruited by his Riverside Drive neighbor Babe Ruth to be the Bambino's personal mascot with the Yankees, died Sunday night at his home in Valley Cottage, N.Y. He was 83.
Kelly was the last living person to have been part of the famous Murderer's Row Yankees of the 1920s, having spent 10 years as Ruth's mascot. He died peacefully a few hours after visiting Bill Liederman, the owner of the new Mickey Mantle's restaraunt at the Palisades Center in West Nyack.
Kelly is survived by his wife, Josephine, and his five children.
