That's Mark and his son. Mark used to play ball with Bordy up at the U of Maine, and he was the one who I just started talking to while we were waiting, and couldn't believe my luck when he said they were friends. Princess screamed, "Ohmigod!!! She loves him!!!" and he said he'd introduce me when Bordy came out.

Mark...... really nice guy. In fact, the two of them could have been as cheesy as they wanted. :D

WOW! I just thought they were weirdo's like me who butt-in to photos! ... If he was playing with Bordick at Maine around 1984-85 when the Bears came to College Station, Texas, to play my Fightin' Texas Aggies, then I saw Mark play college ball as well!

Sure did ... Maine, like a lot of other colleges from up north, used to come down and make a 10-day sweep through the south early on in the college baseball season just to get some games in while it's still too cold/snowy up north ... The Black Bears played at Texas A&M several years running back in the early-to-mid 1980s ... Bordick was a stud with them then, a wee skinny lad, and sucked up every grounder hit to him even way back then.

When I went to Camden Yards a few years back and met a buddy I used to go to those A&M college games with, we both had the same response when they announced Bordick at SS for the O's ... In unison we turned to each other and said, "Remember when we saw him play for Maine?"

Weird that you brought his name up right now ... I've been going through some of my old baseball journals from over the years and logging stuff into my Astros Datebook that I'm finall putting together (the little exercise in the Houston Forum has a point to it) ... I was rummaging through my 2000 Season journal, first year of the new downtown park in Houston, and came across an entry for August 8th that season ... It was one of my buddy's 50th birthdays, and we went to the Houston-Mets game to celebrate ... Noted is the fact that Bordick's error on leadoff hitter Julio Lugo in the bottom of the 1st played a key part in Houston's win over Al Leiter and the Metropolitans that day ... The really weird part is we had just seen him play for the O's about 2 weeks earlier at Camden Yards  I was joking with my buddy that I can't go anywhere and get away from seeing Bordick play!

Oh yeah, forgot to add this link:
BLACK BEARS BASEBALL (http://www.goblackbears.com/baseball/archives.html)

Go there and then click on the "bears in the pros" link, it opens a PDF file that shows a very young Bordy, suitable for printing and framing I'm sure. :D

OHMIGOD!!!!! I LOVE YOU, WILLIE!!!! :luvkiss: :luvkiss:

Geez. Look at that little baby face!!! :laughing

And thanks for the cool stories about those college games!! Man. I would have loved to have seen him play then.

What a weird thing seeing him come to Houston after seeing him in Bal'mer a short time before. Believe me. That was a very weird time. He was shocked that he was traded.... (along with everyone else that fateful day in Baltimore).... he had been having a great first half, a career best at the plate, for Baltimore.... he hit a homerun at Shea his first at bat, the first pitch he saw.... (it was Andy Benes pitching for the Cards).... and then the rest of the time here he made a few errors, he got injured, and the Shea crowd ended up not liking him very much. (But I did. :D ) He was pretty happy to re-sign with Baltimore after that season.

The weird thing is the weekend I was in Baltimore, they traded like everyone, 'cept for Cal, Ponson and 27 other guys who were also on the DL ... Friday night's game was washed out and when they made it up Saturday night (after regular afternoon game that day) there wee players for the O's inthe game who were not with them the night before!
