LANCASTER, Pa. -- Baltimore Orioles pitcher John Parrish has been ordered to stand trial on charges of drunken driving, careless driving and driving with an expired registration.
However, charges that the former McCaskey High School star was driving without a valid driver's license were dismissed.
Parrish was stopped early Oct. 11 in Manor Township in Lancaster County after a police officer clocked him driving 10 mph above the speed limit and observed Parrish's sport utility vehicle swerve in and out of his lane, officials said.
In a hearing Tuesday before District Justice Leo Eckert, Officer Matthew Wolf testified that Parrish was given three field-sobriety tests and failed all three. He was taken to a hospital for a blood test and his blood-alcohol level was established at 0.20 percent, twice the state limit.
Parrish was initially charged with driving without a valid Pennsylvania driver's license. It had been suspended. However, it was later discovered that Parrish's Maryland driver's license had been reinstated.
Parrish, a 23-year-old left-hander, did not testify Tuesday and will be formally arraigned on the charges in December.
He split last season with Baltimore and Triple-A Rochester, going 1-2 with a 6.14 ERA for the Orioles.
