SAN ANTONIO (AP) -- The Dallas Mavericks missed their first free throw and made their final 49. Yep, 49 in a row.

That superb free throw shooting -- along with a few defensive gimmicks from Don Nelson's book of tricks -- was how the Mavericks pulled off a stunning comeback and beat the San Antonio Spurs 113-110 Monday night in Game 1 of the Western Conference finals.

The Mavericks closed the game with a 24-9 run after falling behind by as many as 18 points and trailing nearly the entire game.

Dirk Nowitzki led Dallas with 38 points, going 17-for-17 from the line, and Michael Finley was 10-for-10 at the stripe while scoring 26. Nick Van Exel was 7-for-7 at the line for 14 points, and Steve Nash was 6-for-6 and scored 22.

Not a stunning win. The Mavs have been this way all season long. You never know who will be showing up. It shows you how clutch thye really are to do so great at the line. 49 in a row has to be a record for a team in the playoffs????

I hope the mavs can pull off a few emore of these wins. I would love to see them get to the FINALS!!!!!!!!

Huge Mavs fan here if you haven't noticed....live in Dallas area.

How the hell did they even get 49 FT's? Did San Antonio get a fair amount? Or was this more pathetic officiating? Cuban paying em off?:angry:

San Antonio shot 47 free throws, just not making very many!!!!!!

And did you all here about the snub to us Mav fans on tickets. Supposedly if you live North of Austin you were denied your tickets on Ticketmaster after you had made your purchase. Austin is 75 miles south of Dallas, so they were discriminating. What a load of crap that is. I hope we can tank these Spurs in 4 games and get some rest before the Finals start up.

okei, i have to give dallas credit. they played a great game. and their free shooting...WOW :nut:...49 straight after their first miss. thats amazing free throw shooting!!!

PP Bowen is known as a bad freethrow shooter so they fowled him at the end of the quarters where he missed so it was the hack a shaq thing they did to the lakers in the seris with portland in the 2000 season
