Also, James, could you tell me a little more about Carmelo? Can he rebound, and how good of a shooter is he?

Why wouldn't Detroit go Darko. I think picking him would help the rebounding void. But Carmelo would help the more glaring scoring void. I think this is a real toss up.

Yeah, David Aldridge just said Detroit worked Darko out today, and is almost definatly going to take him. Which, i kind of had a nut feeling they would. I know how much Joe Dumars likes foreign players, who can do a lot with the ball. I guess i wouldn't mind him in the middle, but we desperatly need a scorer, which Carmelo is.

well the Detorit GM or whoever flat out said before the game they planned to take Darko and even had him in for a workout a few days ago.. they wanna move Ben Wallace to PF :)
so now Carmello is coming to Denver ;)

Hmm. . . Pistons #2 overall in the NBA Draft. Lions #2 in the NFL Draft. Tigers #3 overall in the MLB Amature Draft. And the Shock #3 in the WNBA Draft. Is this good news, or bads news???:umm

why would you want to take darko an unproven 17 year old? carmelo has already proved he can handle the pressures of scoring. (and is better head to head than lebron even)
darko would be a HUGE mistake for the the pistons. they dont need more big men. they need OFFENSE, and carmello will give them that, not another big tall goof.

i think Darko would give some offense.. hes got some good moves for a big guy :)

Darko is definatly not your prototypical Europeon tall, lanky, goofy, white guy. From what I hear he has a lot of talent right now. Besides, the guy has been playing against 30 year olds in Europe and has more than held his own. And to top it all off, his has Scoonie Penn's stamp of approval. :D

Sure thing Kyle...
Carmelo in his freshman season averaged like 22 1/2 points per game and 10 rebounds....
Throw in a couple of assists per game as well...
He shot around 45% overall and about 33% from 3 point range so he has good range....
About a 70% FT shooter....
He is 6 foot 8 and weighs about 220 and is a very, very good ball handler for his size.....
Can play multiple positions if needed....Point, shooting guard or both forward positions....
I personally think (although I may be biased) that Carmelo is the best player in this draft (although I admit to not knowing much about Darko, never seeing him play)
James will go #1 because of all the hype surrounding him but IMO Anthony will end up being the better player....
A little tidbit--Anthony dropped 34 points on LeBron "the best high school player ever" James in Oak Hill’s victory over St. Vincent St. Mary last year. ;)
Everytime Carmelo had the ball you just had the feeling that he had the ability to take over a game and on many occassions he did....
Whether or not he can do that in the NBA remains to be seen....

So, he's sort of a Chris Webber?
BTW, Lebron said last night on OTL that he's deffinatly going to Detroit. But, i think i'd trust Joe D's opinion more on this.

Lottery was rigged again.... :hmm:
Pistons need a player more like Carmello, there best scorer right now is Rip Hamilton and he seems like he could be a grewat number 2 guy. They already have one of the best rebounders in the league in Ben Wallace, they dont really need another big man, I would take Carmello if I was Detroit right now.

Actually Chauncy is our best scorer, he just hasn't shown it since he got injured. And Darko can shoot as well, even though he is 7 foot.

Rip averages 22 ppg, Chauncey 16.
You enjoying our ex-raptors billups and corliss?

Actually Rip averaged 19 points during the regular season. And Chauncy's would of been higher if he didn't get off to such a slow start. But the second half, Chauncy was averaging 30 points just about every night.

Everyone here believes the Pistons are taking Darko. About half think Carmelo is the better choice, but all believe Joe D wants the 17 year old foreign star. The Nowitzki comparsion is the one made by most of the media around here. A seven footer with outside scoring touch.
The Pistons might also have Milwaukee's choice, plus their own. Although, they do owe a pick to Atlanta.
Yes, ren we are enjoying those ex-Raptors. Although, you cannot think the NBA rigged the lottery in the Pistons favor? How does that help the league? Half the country hates the Pistons. Either because of the Bad Boys image or because they aren't very exciting offensively (insert Bill Walton here). Rigging the draft for LA, Chicago or NY? Maybe. Detroit? Not a chance.

Well I was thinking that Stern was tired of people critisizing the East so he decided that a team with a lottery chance, Detroit, could become the powerhouse and makesure that the East would put up a fight in next year's championship. They are gonna make the finals next year IMO, as much as I hate to say it. There only competition comes from Toronto and Boston next season the way I see it, since I think Jason Kidd leaves Jersey and Jermaine O'Neal leaves Indy.

There's no way the NBA would cheat in favor of Detroit. They changed the freaken' rules during the Bad Boys days, to make it easier for whimpy scorers like Jordan, and tougher on physical players, like the Bad Boys.

We released Jermaine Jackson last year, if we dont trade the pick I see us taking Bosh or TJ Ford.

You guys got rid of Jackson??? No wonder you didn't make it to the playoffs.
You guys need a center more than anything. Danials is a pretty good power forward, and i don't know who your point guard is, but i wouldn't take a point guard this early in the draft.

05-25-2003, 12:19 PM
lol, Jackson was cut in training camp but then we was signed to a 10 day contract early in the seasona and then we cut him in favour of Rafer Alston- good move.
We dont really need a center because that is where Antonio Davis seems to play best, we could use a PF, and we have a pretty good PG in Alvin Williams but he doesent pass the ball enough and is probably better at PG.

If and when Denver selects Carmelo, that is going to be a perfect fit. Last years draft added a few real good role players, and now they've got that franchise player they need. They need to bring Juwan back as well, and maybe add another cheap veteran.
