Padres' Kotsay Lands on 15-Day DL
PHOENIX -- The San Diego Padres placed center fielder Mark Kotsay on the 15-day disabled list and activated catcher Gary Bennett, who had been out for more than a month with a knee injury.
Kotsay was placed on the DL retroactive to Monday with a sprained lower back.
To replace Kotsay, outfielder Jason Bay was recalled from Triple-A Portland. Bay was expected to start in center field in the series opener against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Bay batted .300 with three doubles, 10 homers and 32 RBI in 46 games for Portland.
Bennett missed 32 games after spraining his right knee April 16 at Los Angeles.
To make room for Bennett, catcher Michael Rivera was optioned back to Triple-A Portland. The Padres also designated outfielder Shane Victorino for assignment.
