Hello everyone ,

SacTown is back to annoy with newb questions .. and almost * ALMOST * well thought out ideas . :hmm:

I am seriously concidering offering Pat Burrell for Jose Velentin .. I want extra depth at SS and the 3b he gives is just bonus . From what I can tell Burrell is on track to meet his 2001 numbers .. which are about 10 HRs less that 2002 and a metric BUTTLOAD less RBIs . This is suppossing on stats to this * about the 3rd of the season * projecting the same pace puts him roughly at his career average * Am I high for thinking this ? * Velentin has almost equal stats career wise to Burrell in his 2001 campaign and seem to be about equal with Burrell atm. I'd rather get good value outta Burrell , because honestly his AVG. sucks the rabid green donkey &*^% . :banghead

Anyway , my team is currently 3rd * 3.5 games outta first in a 12 player league *

This is a snapshot of what I have planned for today. And also my team . So far they have done well . I'm keeping my eyes on Esteban as he has a history of falling off the planet mid season on. So far so good though . My weak point is DEFINATELY ... and CONTINUES to be my Saves .

:freak:

I picked up Beni ... and he's not done as good as I would have liked .. ah well thems the breaks I guess :) I'm pretty average everywhere else except steals .. I kill everyone in steals every week. Just last week I had 14 HRs and 10 SBs . Only had 1 save *vrs 5 for my opponent :( *

So , any advice for this old fart trying to win place or show in his virgin fantasy baseball league ? It would be much appreciated . Thanks in advance .

Glad you asked first. I will say politley first, that you do not need to do that trade. You are very good at Shortstop and third base as it is. I won't be insulting about it, but Burrel for Valentin is not close. Burrel will rebound, mark my words.

Its not worth wanting the depth for that kind of trade... I would say if you want depth really bad, trade Burrel or Andruw Jones for a starting shortstop, and then Aaron Boone is your depth, qualifying at SS, 2b, and 3B. Or, if you must, maybe you could try Jay Payton or someone for Jose Hernandez (or Valentin.) He qualifies at SS and third base, and it would also allow you to move around boone.

But frankly, you have nothing to worry about. I wouldn't even be concerned with backups... you can just pick up some flavor of the week FA when you put your guy on a DL spot. No big deal.

WOW! I'm not even sure how many a "metric buttload" is, but it sure sounds like a lot. :freak:

I'm not sure why you really want the infield depth that Valentin does provide, will he be active most of the time for you? ... If not, I don't see any reason to deal Burrell away for a player that will sit on your pines half the time or more ... Can you get some saves for Burrell, maybe that's the way to go???

I have tended several offers for Burrell <.> Closer of = value . The problem is they know I'm weak in that category and are unwilling to deal me a decent save guy for fear I will attain the coveted FIRST PLACE ! Actually I just think its that my league is unactive .. to the point of boredom .. not even a single amount of trash talkin :umm

Websters Dictionary : Metric Buttload; Any amount of ludicrous proportions when applied to baseball stats , football stats or problems occuring in NASCAR vehicles : i.e. "We had a metric buttload of problems with the Lowes ,Chicken Express ,Fatburger ,Viagra ,Purina Llaama Chow ,Pontiac today .. it's just one'na them racin' deals I guess."

For instant closer help pick up Brenden Donnelly (Angels) off the wire while Percival is DL'd.

Well Bull , I took your advice and MAN was it funny ... the person I am facing this week has Percival .. in his lineup still. < grins >

I just read that Kim was traded to Boston for Hillenbrand . They "Say" he will be a starter since Their ace is on the DL .. but I gotta believe with the closer by commitee situation they have .. Kim is soon to be back in the bullpen . I HOPE so , because then my saves situation looks MUCH better . What do ya think ?

Kim will close once pedro comes back... But that will be a few more starts until then. After the break i bet kim is one of the best closers in the game. Yankee's who???

More instant closer help;
Mike Koplove will spell Matt Mantei while he rest his inflamed shoulder (4 days).
Antonio Alfonseca is getting close to reclaiming his job from Joe Borowski.
MacDougal blew another save today, keep Carrasco handy.
Tampa's Jesus Colome is red hot, could steal some chances from L.Carter.

OH and stick with Beni he seems to be coming around nicely over the last month or so. I just sent off LoDuca, Aurila and Percival for Beni, Scott Shields and a 3rd round pick next year. Hey i needed the closer and had Pierzynski and A Gonzalez filling holes. Every Day Eddie was lonely in my bullpen. Head to head league i was getting killed in saves cause i only had one closer and a bunch of solid middle relief guys. Not to mention i have Nen tucked away so whenever he comes back i have a pretty good 3 man closing crew. Carasco in KC is a good watch McDougal is going down faster than a cheerleader on Prom night. Koplove, mantei whatever, poor dbacks closers arent getting much to close lately, they will rue the day they moved kim to the rotation, he is a solid closer. Hilly will help give some run production but there is always a slump in the AL-NL Transition. Alfy, ah the 6 finger wonder, as much as I hate to say it i agree that he should be back soon I mean Borowski has done a good job but they aren't paying alfy to sit there and get a spot relief once in a while. Cubs pen is loaded this year. As for Colome, you know you used to could steal about 30 saves from a closer on a really bad team, hell it was proven almost, well then the D-Rays came along 20 saves from either of those guys would be a miracle. Carry on..

Yeah , I paid dearly for Beni * traded Tim Hudson straight up * At the time I was under the misconception that Kim was a closer and drafted him as such . All part of the learning curve in Fantasy Baseball :) When I drafted I wanted to shoot for the .500 position at the end of the year as my over-all LOW goal . So far I'm on track to meet or exceed that mark. If things continue like they are today .. I'll have taken 1st place in my league .

I have no idea how long I'll be there .. the other teams are all pretty strong .. and two cellar dwellars are sleeping giants .. they have been devestated by the DL so far. This is the last place team in my league ...
