Thoughts?

Sure, if we could get the next Pujols and Oswalt in return for Giles, I would do it in a heartbeat. Problem is, nobody knows who these people are, and if they do, they sure aren't going to trade them away.

Another thought, why trade Giles right now, when he's only batting around .250 while coming back from injury? Wouldn't it be better to wait until the deadline, find a team that is desperate for some power, then fleece them for all their prospects?

Would our minor league organizations realize that we got the next Pujols or Zito if we did trade for them? Are our minors capable of not killing such talent? How do we know they won't turn the next Pujols into a pitcher, ala Van BenSchoten?

I say wait until the deadline, and raid somebody. I also hope we move a few of those other players mentioned, particularly Williams.

I suppose a Giles Trade makes sense if it is a blockbuster for us. Like DL said before, he would have to get something super. The others will not garner much. Sauerbeck may be the most trade-able of the bunch. Sanders and Reese will both just fade away in my opinion. Pokey has done well while in there, but has been too injury prone. I look for Castillo to possibly be our everyday 2nd baseman, maybe even in September. The only players I see staying are Suppan, Torres, and D' Amico. And I doubt all three will remain. Unless they all pitch super the rest of the way, neither by himself would grab much for us, but I think it is imperative to lock up one or two of them. I lean toward Torres because of his versatility. It is a toss up between the other two. You can almost be certain one of the three will go. Tavarez is probably gone. Another guy that I think may go is Meadows. I would not be surprised to see KY go, but I also would not be surprised to see him sign a real small deal and stay. A lot there will depend on how well our first basemen in the minors progress.

Why trade Giles at the deadline, unless the Yankees continue their downward spiral and trade ... oh, Rivera, Johnson, and two other good prospects for Giles and KY? If Giles is going to be traded, wait until the offseason, for two reasons --- a full season of Giles (heck, maybe we continue winning), and teams generally trade more in the offseason than in the regular season.

And yes, Chevy, I think this regime would recognize the next Pujols or Oswalt ... Cam's not at the top anymore.

No, Greymire, should DL offer ANY kind of contract to KY ... KY stinks, and he's taking ABs from Wilson. Unless KY wants to pay the Pirates to play, let him fade off into the world as a retired person.

I agree on holding on to Giles. Let somebody knock DL's socks off. At least we have one star to cheer. Had KY not popped off about the fans (rightly or wrongly) he would have been a prime candidate for a community relations job. He was saying all the right things about accepting his role, yadda yadda.

If Vogelsong or Williams can comeback and crack the rotation next year, I'd say Torres makes some sense versatility wise. At this point it's a toss up between D'Amico and Suppan.

We need some power in RF for sure. I'd still like to see the Bucs get one of the Twins young OF (Restovich or Cuddyer) for RF. As for CF, Lofton is getting it done right now but how much longer can he continue and what about next year? There's no one at AAA or AA for that matter.

One thing's for sure--next year's roster will have a lot of new faces.
