NEW YORK -- The New York Yankees were in the World Series in each of Brian Cashman's first four years as the team's general manager. Cashman, who at 31 became the second-youngest GM in baseball history, is hoping to add a few more appearances to his already impressive resume.

Cashman, whose contract expired on Oct. 31, signed a new deal to remain as the Yankees' GM. Terms of the deal were not announced, though it is believed to be a multi-year contract.

"It's what I expected all along," Cashman said. "I wasn't ready to graduate from Steinbrenner University just yet. I am excited for the challenges that lie ahead."

Cashman's Yankee career began in 1986, when he served as a college intern with the team's minor league and scouting department. After graduating from Catholic University in 1989, Cashman joined the Yankees full-time as an Assistant in Baseball Operations. He became the Assistant GM in Nov. 1992, and was promoted to GM on Feb. 3, 1998.

Cashman's Yankees won three consecutive titles from 1998-2000, making him just the third GM in history to achieve that feat, joining former Yankees GMs Ed Barrow (four straight, 1936-39) and George Weiss (five straight, 1949-53). He was the first GM to win titles in each of his first three seasons, and was the youngest GM (31) to win a World Series.

Cashman said that he never had any doubts that he would be back with the Yankees, and that he is looking forward to helping New York regain its World Series crown.

"I have spent my entire professional career here with the New York Yankees. It's all I've ever known, and this is the place for me."
