Can anyone figure out why Lofton did not play tonight (unless he asked) who ever heard of a guy sitting out during a hitting streak when they are off the next night anyway? I realize he is not young anymore and will need a rest at some point, but why not ride him when he is hot? If he goes 0-4 then give him the first game of the series off!!! What is it with Mac having to always sit guys when they are streaking?

Mac=Moron.
I don't think anymore explanation is neccessary.
Seriously, though...I don't get it. Why in the world would he sit Lofton? This is even worse than usual for Lloyd.
22-30 at this point of the season. Not horrible...but remember...it could be worse....we're not too far from .500...if we play .500 or better ball for a little while...we'll be OK...

Lofton asked for last night's game off.
And the bullpen has blown five games ... assuming the bullpen converts 4 out of 5, the Pirates would be 26-26. If the Bucs were 26-26 at this point in the season, I'd be feeling pretty good. But oh well ... can't dwell on the past.

Actually I thought about it last night and figured with a veteran like Lofton, he would have been given a choice. Did you see somewhere that he asked for it off?

unless he was sick or hurt
and given his current streak
why would Lofton want a day off before an offday?
does that make sense?

Yes, I did see that he wanted the day off ... I think it was at the PG. Wherever or whomever I heard it from is reliable.
edro, Lofton told McClendon that his legs were dragging ... this was at the PG.
Bet Lofton's legs felt a little bit more tired after seeing Prior is the pitcher he would have had to extend his streak against, considering his 0-7 lifetime mark.
