The Blazers today commented on recent articles discussing the possibility of Head Coach Maurice Cheeks leaving the organization to fill the role of Head Coach for the Philadelphia 76ers.
"Maurice Cheeks has done an excellent job as coach of the Blazers. The Blazers organization, fans and community have embraced Maurice in his two years here and we look forward to what the future holds with him as our coach. Philadelphia did contact us asking permission to speak to Maurice about its coaching vacancy, but we feel it is in the best interest of our organization and community to deny that request," said Mike Hanson, Executive Director of Communications for the team.
Maurice Cheeks met with local media at 2:00pm at the Blazers Practice Facility to address questions on the topic.
"My allegiance to and focus is on this organization and our fans. The city has been good to me. Right now my focus is on meeting with the coaches and scouts in preparation for the upcoming draft," said Cheeks.
