Daal again faces Rangers
Texas (25-27) at Baltimore (25-27), 7:05 p.m. ET
By Gary Washburn / MLB.com

BALTIMORE -- The Orioles had their four-game winning streak snapped Thursday as Pat Hentgen walked five and allowed six runs in an 8-4 loss. The Rangers' powerful lineup had four doubles and a home run. So now it's Omar Daal's responsibility to stop the Rangers for the second time in a week.

It should be an interesting matchup between Hank Blalock, one of the American League's leading hitters, and Melvin Mora, who lost his Major League lead in hitting to Blalock on Thursday. Mora is hitting .356. Blalock is at .359.

The Orioles had their streak of banging out at least 10 hits snapped. They had eight Thursday but are still hitting .272 as a team. They have raised the team batting average 21 points in the past two weeks.

The Orioles play three more against Texas and then head to Houston for the beginning of Interleague play.

Pitching matchup:

BAL: LHP Omar Daal

1-0, 4.80 lifetime vs. TEX

TEX: RHP John Thomson

3-5, 4.85 in 2003
0-1, 5.40 in 2003 vs. BAL
0-1, 5.40 lifetime vs. BAL

Player to watch: Daal has not won consecutive starts this season, so it remains to be seen if he can beat the Rangers twice in a row. He struck out eight on Saturday at Arlington.

Quotable: "They can make you do and say things you wouldn't normally say." -- Orioles manager Mike Hargrove on the Rangers' lineup. :umm: WHAT?! What exactly does that mean, Grover? :umm: :umm:

WOO-HOO!!

Sure enough, they got me a win! And what a win it was. Great play any way you look at it, awesome game from Omar, the offnese was sizzling, Matos had a great game too. And Conine, with an awesome homer, very exciting, and Segui's bases-clearing double was equally thrilling. Kerry Ligtenberg pitched a perfect ninth to finish the Rangers off.

And the FANS! Almost 43,000 of them showed up, the biggest crowd since opening day! It reminded me of the good ol' days, when we'd sell out every weekend. And it wasnt like the sellouts we get for Yankees and Red Sox series, which are usually partial to the opposing team. A stadium full of loud Orioles fans was fun to see. I had awesome seats, right above the visitor's dugout, and man it was just a great time.

My only trip to Camden a few years back was equally awesome ... Big crowds for a weekend series with the Indians, despite the O's dealing away half their team and wallowing in the ranks ... The Friday night game was washed away after 4 innings with a packed house, everyone packed the concourses for about an hour and it turned into one giant "squeeze my buns and I'll squeeze yours" party:eek:

When they made it up on Saturday night after the normal afternoon game that day, less than 6,000-7,000 were on hand by my best guess ... I sat all over the stadium taking in the views ... I think the best seats at the park or the ones down the RF line, almost to the corner.

As for last night, way to go Arlene Daal! Good pitching in there, lady! :freak:

Attendance tonight was officially 30,000 but with the crazy rain delay (like 2 hours?) I dont think many stayed around. Anyway, I just found out I'm going tomorrow too, so I'm psyched! Hopefully the weather will cooperate, because Friday was really the first nice day of the season so far in Baltimore. It sucks. But hey, going to the stadium is always fun.

Yeah, one of my friends had 2 tickets and couldn't go, so me and my little bro went up. The weather was excellent, maybe even a little too sunny :D... The only thing I can complain about is that I had such a hard time parking! All the stadium lots seemed to be full, which never seems to happen anymore (with the small crowds this year) and then all the downtown lots were either full or closed because it was Sunday. So I eventually found a spot on the street (free!) even though we had to walk about 8 blocks. It was a great time as always. Good crowd, about 39,000 I think.
