It was soooooo cool finally seeing him back!!!!! :bigsquare :bigsquare :clap2: :clap2:
Although I was hoping his return would be tomorrow when I was there. Oh well, I did cheer for him and applaud and whoop from my living room!
I'm very sad about David Cone.

You got that right USC..
The Mets are the only team that has one old pitcher RETIRE, one old pitcher comes off the DL and our team actually gets OLDER in age :hmm:
The Geritol keeps flowing in the bullpen.
Wait till Franco is Franco of old and you'll see the "Benitez bashers" wondering why Howe put in Franco. It's amazing how people totally forgot the 90's when Franco was blowing saves....

actually what I wondered was how many of those standing, roaring fans would have given Benitez a similar reaction after allowing 2 very solid hts and needing a DP to get out of the inning. I mean isn't that the big objection to Mando; not that he doesn't get it done but rather that it's not pretty?

There are only 2 other closers in the NL that are better than Mando-Gange and Smoltz.
Franco was just as much if NOT more a "bottle of tums" waiting to happen coming into the 9th.
People stood and cheered because of sentimental reasons, Franco has been a Met since 90. He was never the "Franco in Cincy" in NY.
But Mets fans have short memories ;)
Personally....I think he needs to retire.

well, you and I have never agreed about Franco and never will...I think he will retire at season's end. He just needed to come back and then be able to leave on his own terms rather than have his body betray him. And let's face it; it couldn't hurt to have another effective pitcher in the pen. He's certainly a step up over Cerda and Middlebrook.

Me too!!
It was so cool seeing him jog in and seeing and hearing the reception he got. And when he left the mound, too. He looked so happy to be back!!!

It was great to see him back. It'll be fun to see what he can do with the bionic arm. God knows our bullpen could use some help.
Good to see the Franco bashers are still around.:moon:
