Pistons to introduce Brown on Monday

DETROIT -- Larry Brown will be introduced as the coach of the Detroit Pistons at a news conference Monday, a source within the league said.

Brown reached an agreement on a long-term deal to succeed fired coach Rick Carlisle, the source, speaking on the condition of anonymity, told The Associated Press on Saturday.

Pistons spokesman Kevin Grigg said Sunday he could not confirm a news conference would be held.

Brown did not immediately return a phone message left at his home.

Carlisle was fired on Friday after leading the Pistons to a 50-win season and a spot in the conference finals for the first time since 1991.

Brown resigned as coach of the Philadelphia 76ers on Monday after six seasons.

I agree. Carlisle should be pissed for many reasons. And was has Brown done that makes him a better coach that Carlisle? But, i will respect Dumars decision, and will support Brown.

I think Carlisle got screwed by a number of people and a number of factors, his own poor decision making included, but to say Brown is a bad coach is way off base.

He has won everyone he has gone. ABA, NCAA, NBA, doesn't matter. He wins. He has 1,000 wins at both the NCAA level and in the NBA. He won the 1988 National Championship. He's in the stinking Hall of Fame right now.

Does Brown have a downside? Of course. He quits constantly and he is wound tightly. He burns himself out. He does have an ego. If he were offered the Carolina job tomorrow, would he dump the Pistons in a heartbeat? Yes.

All that said, Larry Brown's resume makes Carlisle's look pretty insignficant. He is arguably one of the greatest coaches ever and still one of the best in the NBA right now. I like Carlisle and thought he should have stayed, but don't dismiss Brown's success just because the Pistons made a decision most of us don't understand.

I agree Brown is one of the best coaches in the league, i just don't think he's done anything to prove he's better than Carlisle. But, i do feel we have a better shot at a title with Brown, i just think this was a little unprofessional.
