To the surprise of no one, the Tigers got rid of Tony Clark today. To my surprise, anway, they places him on waivers. I have to assume there wasn't much of a market for his services and it was cheaper to just cut him loose. The Red Sox have picked him up.
Tony was my favorite Tiger and I'm sure I'm in the minority who liked him. Most Tiger fans are probably thrilled to have him gone, although they would have preferred something in return. On a team with little pop, to unload a 30HR-100RBI guy seems short-sighted, but the re-building continues at Comerica Park and TC clearly wasn't part of this team's future. Although, I would contend he wasn't really part of the problem here, either.
While Clark didn't live up to all the expectations, he did produce some good numbers here while playing on some terrible teams. Clark was also active in the community. He is a far better person than player and unforunately that doesn't amount to much in this game. I wish him well.
The Tigers also said goodbye to pitchers Heath Murray and Chris Holt. Both hit waivers today, as well. At least, the Tigers are starting to do something.
