Colorado Rockies general manager Dan O'Dowd continued efforts to revamp the struggling bullpen Wednesday, acquiring right-hander Jay Powell from Houston for left-hander Ron Villone, his second deal in four days.
The Rockies also agreed to pick up the pro-rated difference in salary between the two pitchers. Villone is being paid $2.8 million this season. Powell is earning $1.6 million.
The Rockies also are expected to sign right-handed pitcher Dan Miceli once (and if) he clears waivers with Florida.
