look at what the ACC wants to do.. whats gonna prevetnt the main 6 conferences or so to just decidng they wanna be in charge and trying to start their own NCAA... schools dont like what the NCAA says so they might want to leave it.. I think in 10-15 years it coudl happen if things progess as they are now...

I have been following this situation very closely, mainly because I live in Pittsburgh, PA, the home of the Pittsburgh Panthers who would be more affected than anybody else should this ACC thing happen. The ACC is trying to model their conference after the SEC, thich is understandable, being they are extremely successful. Even if all 6 conferences went to 12 teams, 2 divisions each the NCAA would still exist. It all revolves around the money.
Let me say it again, it is all about the money. One of the desirable things about the SEC, (and the reason why the big ten wants another team), is that with two divisions, you can have less in-conference games, which for big schools mean more home games against smaller schools. Home Games = MONEY. If the bigger schools leave the NCAA they couldnt play small schools at home to bring in MONEY. Also, the NCAA basketball tournamnet, brings in more MONEY than any other event in college sports, they do not want to give that MONEY up

The NCAA only exists because the universities want it to. As long as they agree, it stays. The schools run the NCAA, not the other way around.
Money is indeed the answer to the NCAA's problems. Always has been, always will be.
The reason most conferences are looking for 12 teams (or more) is not the low revenue non-conference home game cupcake, but the big money conference title game. You can only have a conference football title game with 12 schools.

but some of these big schoools are gonna be mad at the small schools...
Tulane wants a meeting of all 54 of the school presidents who arent in BCS conferences to try and break it up... I think if they can find ways to do this the big schools may try to break away.. but the NCAA basketball thing wouldnt work then and i dunno if some schools would do it.. but u are right the schools run the NCAA

The NCAA won't go away. There are still schools following the NCAA format.

I voted "it's not going away" mostly because I wish it would and my wishes never come true :hmm:
Seriously, I wish the NCAA would relax some rules and make others tougher/stricter ... The NCAA would work just fine if I was in charge :D
