Byrd update
The Braves aren't expecting pitcher Paul Byrd to come off the disabled list before the All-Star break, notwithstanding his recent optimistic statements about his return.
Byrd had elbow surgery April 17 to remove bone chips and a bone spur, and has been throwing from a mound for about two weeks.
Trainer Jeff Porter said the right-hander would need another week of bullpen sessions, then a week or two throwing batting practice to sharpen his pitches.
After that, Byrd will have rehab assignment and make at least two or three starts in the minors before rejoining the Braves, provided there are no setbacks.
