FLUSHING, New York (Ticker) - New York Mets reliever Mike Stanton is scheduled to undergo arthroscopic surgery on his left knee Friday.
An MRI revealed Stanton has a torn meniscus in his knee and is expected to be sidelined three-to-six weeks.
Stanton was placed on the disabled list in late May with inflammation of the knee. After having fluid drained from the knee and a cortisone shot, he was activated last week, but heard a pop in his knee while throwing a fastball in Tuesday's game at Texas.
The 36-year-old lefthander ranks fourth among active pitchers in appearances with 858 and was a member of three championship teams with the New York Yankees.
Signed as a free agent in the offseason, Stanton is 2-3 with a 4.71 ERA in 25 appearances with the Mets.
