FLUSHING, New York (Ticker) - New York Mets reliever Mike Stanton is scheduled to undergo arthroscopic surgery on his left knee Friday.

An MRI revealed Stanton has a torn meniscus in his knee and is expected to be sidelined three-to-six weeks.

Stanton was placed on the disabled list in late May with inflammation of the knee. After having fluid drained from the knee and a cortisone shot, he was activated last week, but heard a pop in his knee while throwing a fastball in Tuesday's game at Texas.

The 36-year-old lefthander ranks fourth among active pitchers in appearances with 858 and was a member of three championship teams with the New York Yankees.

Signed as a free agent in the offseason, Stanton is 2-3 with a 4.71 ERA in 25 appearances with the Mets.

Perhaps he was pitching too well, so George had him kneecapped.

It could happen! ;)

I've had that surgery. Three times in fact. Stanton'll be back before you know it.

Not true, James. The more kids we bring up from Norfolk, the better we've been playing. The team just needs a few token old geezers (over 30?) for guidance, and they'll be just fine!!
